Prayers for the Kelly Family

It’s been an unusual week before Christmas for me this year. My crossed off to-do list would show that I’ve been running around getting ready for Christmas, both at work and at home. However my heart has been somewhere else.

At the beginning of the week, my husband informed me that the husband of a former coworker of his was nearing the end of his life. He had suffered from a form of brain cancer and his health was deteriorating rapidly in each passing day. Today’s blog entry from his wife was a call for friends to come today to say goodbye because doctors do not think he’ll make it too many more days.

If he dies, he will leave behind a wife and a two-year-old daughter.

My heart aches for this family and the pain that they must be going through. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve found myself tearing up with a lump in my throat thinking about their situation. I find myself pulling away from the busyness of the season and taking quiet moments to pray for Patrick and his family.

I am reminded of God’s healing power and I long for him to heal Patrick. I believe in miracles and I know one could happen for Patrick and he could be well again.  I also know that not all stories end in miracles and I do not have the ability to understand why.

I trust and hope that Patrick will soon be removed from his pain, whether that be from God’s healing or his passing. I believe that someday he will be reunited with his wife and daughter and they will forever be together in God’s glorious kingdom.

I believe this to be true because more than two thousand years ago a baby was born that would forever change the world. That baby grew up, suffered and died on a cross so that our lives would not end with death.

I do not know what tomorrow holds. Tonight I ask for your prayers for Patrick, Julie and Cecilia.
